Engineering Personnel The department is combined with woodwork, DCG and Art. We have department meetings on a regular basis to discuss and explore ways of promoting an developing the subjects in our school. Metalwork and Engineering is taught to all class groups by one full time teacher in the department who recieves in career developement through the ETTA. A comprehensive inservice programme has been attended by the teacher given by t4 for DCG. This has a great relevence to Engineering and Metalwork. Metalwork at Junior Level The following topics are coverded through theory and practical – Health and Safety, Metals and plastics, Measuring, Manufacturing, Fitting and Assembly, Electronics, Mechanisms and the Design process. In the Junior cert exam a maximum of 50% is awarded for theory exam, 25% for a practical exam and 25% for a practical project. Engineering at Senior Level The following topics are coverded through theory and practical – Health and Safety, Metals and plastics, Manufacturing, Machining, Metrology, Fitting and Assembly, Materials testing, Electronics, Pneumatics, Mechanisms and the Design process. In the Leaving cert exam a maximum of 50% is awarded for theory, 25% for a practical exam and 25% for a Design project. |

Engineering Facilities The workshop has equipment specified by the planning and building unit of the department of education as well as a selection of text books, Blackboard, Drawing Equipment, TV and video, laptop and data projector. Engineering Department Activities At the annual awards night, a presentation is given to the JC metalwork student of the year, and to the LC Enginnering student of the year. Demonstrations relevant to both subjects are given on the annual open day. JC and LC projects are put forward to local area and national meetings and AGM of the ETTA. |
