Art Department

The Art department provides a comprehensive Art curriculum at both Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle .

   

Art Personnel

The subject is thought by two Art teachers.

Both teachers has been involved in in-career development and craft and design workshops. Regular department meetings take place with the other practical classes Metalwork and Woodwork, where a dedicated subject co-ordinator has been appointed. Ways to improve and develope the subject are discussed and applied in the classroom .

 Junior Cycle Art

 The course covers-

  • The subject promotes in all students an informed , enquiring and discriminating attitude to his/her environment and to help students relate in a visual, tactile and special terms.
  • The subject developes a sence of personal identity and self esteem through practical achievements in the expressive, communicate and functional modes of art, craft and design.
  • The subject developes in the student an understanding of art, craft and design in a variety of contexts, historial, cultural, economical, social and personal.
  • The subject also developes the students artistic and aesthetic sensibilities and qualities of critical appraisal, appreciation and evaluation and to enhanse the students qualities of imagination, creativity and originality.

 

Senior Cycle

  •  The course covers all of the above and also promotes the pupils interest in the history of art and design and to foster a love for it. The study of art history should compliment and extend a pupils understanding and knowledge of the practical work being undertaken.
  • The course also tries to expose students to a variety of materials in an attempt to express themselves in a creative way.
  • To provide a balance of making art and receiving art.

 

   

Art Facilities

The Art Department has facilities , which include white board and data projector,video, computers and internet connection, camera and video camera,scanner, printing press, drying rack, guillotine, all facilities needed for crafts such as Lino, Felt making, Puppetry,Packageing,Batik,Bookcraft Waeving Modeling etc etc. Students work is displayed in the art room and also througout the school.
